Batch sedimentation system for treating first-flush runoff during rainfall events
EcoPrimo is a system designed to treat the first flush during rainfall events.
During the initial phase of a rainfall event, the majority of pollutants are washed away from traffic and industrial areas. This so-called first-flush phase is characterized by particularly high concentrations of solids and light liquids. After approximately 4–5 mm of rainfall, the majority of pollutants have been washed away. The subsequent water contains only minimal pollutants.
The EcoPrimo system consists of various components. First, the rainwater flows into the EcoDiviso distribution shaft. This directs the first flush to the sedimentation tank for treatment. There, the rainwater contaminated with pollutants is stored and purified through sedimentation. The retention time of the water in the tank can be flexibly adjusted (from 24 to 96 hours) using the control unit to ensure optimal sedimentation of the pollutants. The system is protected by a backflow preventer in the tank, which closes the inlet as soon as the tank is full. This prevents the backflow of light liquids into the EcoDiviso and allows sedimentation to proceed undisturbed. The control unit in the sedimentation tank is also equipped with an external rain sensor. This reliably detects the end of a rainfall event. This allows the timer for the retention time to start—either as soon as the rain stops or when the tank is full. Once this retention time has elapsed, the pump is automatically activated and empties the tank. When the sedimentation tank is emptied, the pre-treated water is directed to the light liquid separator. This unit features an integrated sampling system, allowing the quality of the effluent to be easily and reliably checked. The less contaminated rainwater following the first flush is routed directly past the system via an EcoDiviso. This ensures that only the water containing pollutants is specifically treated, while the remaining rainwater is efficiently discharged.
