Modern retention trench beneath the customer car park

A modern rainwater management system completes the construction of a new REWE supermarket in Rottweil, Germany. The core element is the EcoFlow Control, an intelligent throttling system that ensures a stable discharge rate of up to 20 l/s. This guarantees controlled drainage of stormwater and relieves the existing infrastructure.

Beneath the future customer parking lot, a welded modular retention tank was built with dimensions of 21.6 m × 4.8 m × 0.7 m. The structure is designed for HGV load bearing (60 t) and, with a soil cover of 1.40 m, meets the static requirements for heavily trafficked areas.

The pre-assembled EcoFlow Control was integrated into the Vario 800 shaft and ensures a constant discharge rate, regardless of the water level in the tank. Thanks to its high hydraulic efficiency, the required retention volume can be reduced by up to 15 % compared to static throttling systems. Additionally, an EcoBloc Inspect smart plus chamber was installed, serving as an inlet to the tank and allowing longitudinal inspection.

The installation and welding of the 320 EcoBloc Inspect smart modules and the chambers were completed in just one and a half days - a result of careful planning and close coordination among all parties involved.

Advantages of our EcoFlow Control at a glance:

• Up to 15 % less retention volume thanks to the use of a dynamic throttling system
• Constant discharge rate between 4 and 20 l/s
• Easy maintenance and inspection via the Vario 800 shaft

The construction project is part of the infrastructural preparation for a daycare centre that is planned to be built on the site. The opening is scheduled for spring 2026 and will add an important facility for the local community.

The project was realised in cooperation between the city of Rottweil, Otto GRAF GmbH, Stotz Bau GmbH & Co. KG, and other specialised companies. It is considered an excellent example of modern urban development where technical innovation, space efficiency, and sustainable planning go hand in hand.
