GRAF has taken a huge photovoltaic system in operation

The specialist for environmental products GRAF from Teningen has taken a photovoltaic system on the roof of the Neuried (Ortenaukreis) plant into operation. A total of more than 3,000 solar modules from the German manufacturer Axitec with a total output of more than 1,200 kWp were installed on the roofs of the production and logistics buildings. With a complete module area of around 6,000 square meters, the photovoltaic system is one of the largest in the region.

"We are pleased that we can make a contribution to more sustainability with the photovoltaic system, reduce emissions and save money at the same time," says Otto P. Graf, Managing Director of the family company, which manufactures products for sustainable rainwater use, rainwater retention and fire-fighting water storage in a resource-saving manner. "In the future we will use the electricity we produce ourselves, for example to manufacture our large tanks, for which we have previously only used gas." On an annual average, the system presently covers over 70 percent of the current electricity consumption at the Neuried site, says Graf further.

A project to use electricity and gas from the neighboring biogas plant should also make a significant contribution to saving fossil fuels in the future. However, GRAF also focuses on environmental protection and sustainability in other areas. 75 percent of the materials processed at GRAF are recycled raw materials. These come from the company's own plastics recycling at the raw materials competence center in Herbolzheim, where plastic household waste is processed and recycled. Neuried is the fourth location of the family company in the region and is conveniently located between the headquarters in Teningen, the raw materials competence center in Herbolzheim and the plant in Dachstein (Alsace). According to their own estimates, the logistics center also set up in Neuried means that GRAF can save more than 2000 truck journeys between these sites per year. The new buildings are extensively insulated, the facades are green and thanks to new machine technology, 90 percent of the energy is saved at the Neuried location compared to previous technologies and standards.
