New PV Systems at Our German Sites

6 megawatts of power for an even more sustainable future – roofs at sites in Teningen, Herbolzheim and Neuried (Ortenau district) equipped with thousands of solar panels.

Last year, we completed the installation of photovoltaic systems on the roofs of our headquarters in Teningen, our competence centre in Herbolzheim and our plant in Neuried (Ortenau district). This makes us one of the largest solar power operators in Baden-Württemberg. Together, the systems have a capacity of 6 megawatts – that is about twice as much as the system on the roof of SC Freiburg’s Europa Park Stadium, for example. ‘The use of solar energy to manufacture our products is an important step in our sustainability strategy,’ said our Managing Director, Otto P. Graf. ‘It not only enables us to further reduce our emissions, but also to lower our production costs in the long term.’

In addition to the systems in Baden-Württemberg, the roofs of our GRAF branches in Dachstein (Alsace) and Luxembourg have also been equipped with photovoltaic modules. This brings the total output to even more than 6 megawatts.

With a total of 3,342 solar panels and a pure module area of 6,526 square metres, the PV system in Neuried is already one of the largest in the region. A project that uses electricity and gas from the nearby biogas plant also helps to reduce fossil fuel consumption at the site. However, our sustainability efforts go beyond  energy generation: modern machine technology enables Neuried to achieve energy savings of 90 per cent compared to conventional methods and standards. All buildings are excellently insulated and feature green facades. Thanks to the proximity to our sites in Teningen, Herbolzheim and Dachstein, more than 2,000 truck trips can be saved each year.
